Final events of the Research Pavilion high season in Venice
The third Research Pavilion in Venice, hosted by
the University of the Arts Helsinki, is a meeting place for artists and
researchers, a catalyst of emerging co-operations, and a generator of new
artistic thinking. The overarching title of the Pavilion, “Research Ecologies”,
refers to the rich network of approaches involved.
During the summer, the Research Pavilion has hosted
a vast programme of workshops, conversations, exhibitions, lectures, and
research. The venue, Sala del Camino on the Island of Giudecca, is a vibrant,
changing space that showcases the multiple methods and practices of conducting
artistic research. It can be visited from Wednesday to Monday from 10am to 6pm
until 28 August.
Towards the end of August, the pavilion’s high
season in Venice will end with a line-up of three events that once again bring
together artist researchers from different backgrounds.
20–21 August
Material Encounters
A two-day programme, including a concert-lecture
that showcases the outcomes of a residency period, during which musicians and
ceramists worked side-to-side forming a parallel discussion of musical and gestural
rhythms. The audience is welcomed to work with local clay. The event also
includes discussions and presentations on materiality, archipelagic thinking,
and the intertwined relationship between humans and soil.

Assembly of Journals
In August the Research Pavilion project brings together several journals that are publishing research in the arts. The key idea of this collegial assembly is to facilitate discussion and exchange of ideas about shared interests, challenges, and possible forms of future cooperation.

The 5th Nida Doctoral School: ‘Fight The Power 2019/1989: We, the Ungovernable’
The Nida Doctoral School (NDS) will be held at
the Lithuanian Pavilion, the Research Pavilion and additional
environments in Venice. Entitled ‘Fight The Power’, this year’s Nida Doctoral
School is energized by the 30th anniversary of Spike Lee’s ‘Do
The Right Thing’ and its opening credit sequence soundtrack-ed by Public Enemy.
Convinced by the radical potentialities of research-as-praxis, NDS utilises
this 30th anniversary to ask: what does it mean to do the right
thing?
The Research Pavilion is an ongoing project created and hosted by Uniarts
Helsinki. Research Pavilion #3 is created in cooperation with
the Louise and Göran Ehrnrooth Foundation and international partner
institutions: Aalto University, Valand Academy of Arts at the University of
Gothenburg, University of Applied Arts Vienna, and Interlab Hongik
University Seoul.
